How Can Counselling Help with Pain?
Isn’t pain a physical problem?
Pain is felt physically but it has many factors that contribute including memories, thoughts, emotions, your environment, and more.
By adding counselling to your pain management plan, you can learn how to address those factors, change your relationship to pain, and even improve your mental health and recovery.
Sometimes pain becomes persistent (or chronic) or an injury can lead to significant life changes. It can be difficult to cope or imagine returning to your previous way of life.
Our counselling services are provided in a safe space to process those feelings and find ways to engage in a purposeful and meaningful life.

Counselling is also known to be an effective treatment for many mental health struggles such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, and common life experiences like stress and grief.
How Our Psychology Services Help You Manage Your Pain
Over the course of counselling we discuss how pain is impacting your life and work on strategies to deal with it.
It could be working with your thoughts to be less catastrophizing, developing realistic expectations and being kind to yourself, or relaxation strategies to help you weather a flare up.
As we said, chronic pain can trigger a lot of other changes in your life, so counselling can teach you skills to deal with those challenges and process those changes.
For example, you may learn strategies to improve your sleep, decrease your anxiety, or manage your frustration
